Heartbreaking Tragedy Strikes Central Texas as Flash Floods Claim Multiple Lives
The catastrophic flash floods that ravaged Central Texas on July 4 have left a trail of devastation, claiming the lives of several victims, including 21-year-old Joyce Catherine Badon. Joyce was among a group of friends staying in Hunt, Texas, when the floodwaters surged without warning. After days of intensive searching, Joyce’s body was discovered, and her family confirmed the heartbreaking loss.
Three of Joyce’s friends—Ella Cahill, Reese Manchaca, and Aidan Heartfield—were also swept away by the storm. Tragically, Reese has been confirmed dead, while Ella and Aidan remain missing.
Joyce’s final moments were described as gut-wrenching. Just before the floodwaters overtook them, she had been on the phone with the father of one of her friends, trying to make her way to safety. Despite their desperate attempts to escape, the rising current swept all four of them away. In the wake of this tragedy, Joyce’s mother found comfort in the belief that her daughter is now watching over them from above, offering a sense of peace in the midst of profound grief.
The same storm also hit Camp Mystic in Kerr County, claiming the lives of two young best friends—9-year-old Lila Bonner and 8-year-old Eloise Peck. Both girls were among a group of campers tragically swept away by the floods. Their families, devastated by the loss, remembered them as vibrant and full of life. Another camper, 9-year-old Hadley Hanna, remains missing as of July 6.
As search and rescue teams tirelessly continue their efforts, these tragic stories have touched hearts across Texas and beyond.
