“Legendary Sixties Singer and Songwriter Dies at 83”

Jesse Colin Young, Iconic Frontman of The Youngbloods, Passes Away at 83

Jesse Colin Young, the beloved frontman of the legendary band The Youngbloods, has passed away at the age of 83 in Aiken, South Carolina, on March 16.

A master of blending folk, rock, jazz, blues, and country, Young’s musical influence spanned generations, leaving an indelible legacy on the music world. Born Perry Miller in Queens, New York, on November 22, 1941, he spent his formative years in Pennsylvania. After attending Phillips Academy and Ohio State University, Young left academics behind to follow his true calling: music.

Before forming The Youngbloods, Young released two solo albums in the early 1960s. However, it was with The Youngbloods that he truly made his mark. Their iconic 1967 hit, “Get Together”, became a symbol of peace and unity, especially after its re-release in 1969 during the height of the counterculture movement.

Following his departure from the group in 1972, Young embarked on a solo career, delivering heartfelt albums like Song for Juli and Light Shine, often reflecting his passion for social and environmental causes.

Even in the face of Lyme disease in the 1980s, Young’s spirit remained unshaken. He continued to create, perform, and inspire, with his 2019 album Dreamers reaffirming his message of hope, love, and unity.

Jesse Colin Young’s music, his voice, and his message will forever resonate with those who believe in the power of music to bring us together.
